Schmitt, Kraus honored again as MIAC Players of the Week

Setter/Defensive Specialist

Jenny Schmitt, a senior setter from the University of St. Thomas, led the Tommies to one of the most successful weeks in school history as the team defeated #3 UW-River Falls (3-1), Macalester (3-1) and St. Olaf (3-0). In the upset of UW-River Falls, Schmitt totalled 59 assists, 16 digs, and four blocks and then in the win over MIAC rival St. Olaf, Schmitt contributed 36 assists and 18 digs. Schmitt averaged 12.18 assists, 4.09 digs and 1.0 total blocks per game in the three matches last week and helped the team compile hitting percentages of .345 against Macalester and .306 against St. Olaf. St. Thomas is currently in first place in the MIAC with a record of 8-0.

Co-Hitters of the Week


Jill Kraus, a senior middle hitter from the University of St. Thomas, played three outstanding matches last week in helping the Tommies pick up impressive victories over #3 ranked UW-River Falls (3-1), and MIAC rivals Macalester (3-1) and St. Olaf (3-0). Kraus average 3.5 kills per game, 1.0 blocks per game and 3.9 digs per game for the week. She compiled a hitting percentage of .439 against UW-River Falls while also recording 20 kills and 20 digs. Against Macalester, Kraus recorded a hitting percentage of .429 and added 17 digs. St. Thomas is currently in first place in the MIAC with a record of 8-0.

Carrie Ritland, a senior outside hitter from Bethel College, recorded 84 kills, 43 digs, six blocks and four service aces last week as the Royals picked up important MIAC wins over St. Olaf, St. Mary's and Hamline. Ritland recorded 32 kills and 15 digs in the 3-1 win over St. Mary's, 33 kills and 17 digs in the 3-1 win over St. Olaf and 19 kills and 11 digs in the 3-1 win over Hamline. In the Hamline victory, Ritland surpassed the 1,600 career kill mark. Bethel is currently in second place in the MIAC with a league mark of 8-1.

It's the second time this season that Schmitt and Kraus have won the MIAC weekly honor.
