Volleyball wraps MIAC playoff berth with 3-game win

The St. Thomas volleyball team scored a three-game win over St. Ben's Wednesday in Schoenecker Arena. The Toms prevailed 30-28, 30-27, 30-21 and in the process clinched a spot in the six-team MIAC playoffs.

St. Mary's and Concordia-Moorhead also won three-game decisions Wednesday and clinched playoff spots. All three are 7-3 with one MIAC match to go.

The Tommies topped the Blazers for the second time this season and improved to 19-6 overall with two regular-season matches to go. UST closes its conference season next Wednesday at Macalester and plays its final home regular-season match next Monday vs. UW-River Falls.

Kristin Pins had nine kills and hit .350; Jenny Smith had eight kills and eight blocks; Katie Reynolds had 12 kills and 25 digs Erin Keating had 11 digs and seven kills; Jane Gibbs had 43 assists and four aces; and Emily Buehler had 13 digs.

UST led game won 29-21 before the Blazers reeled off seven points to pull within 29-28. The Toms survived another late run in game two to escape 30-27.
