Volleyball's Katie Reynolds, Jane Gibbs honored

The St. Thomas volleyball team had two players honored as Hitter and Setter of the Week Monday in the MIAC.

Outside hitter Katie Reynolds (SR-Mora) helped lead the Tommies to a 4-1 record last week that included a conference road win at Carleton, and victories against No. 17 ranked Ithaca (3-0), 2001 Final Four qualifier Wellesley (3-0), and Wheaton (Mass.). The Tommies' only loss was to No. 2 Cal State-Hayward (3-2), during which Reynolds put down a school record 36 kills while hitting .589 and recording 24 digs. For the week, Reynolds had 103 kills (5.7 kpg), 98 digs (5.4 dpg), 14 blocks and 7 service aces. Her hitting percentage for all five matches was .405. Reynolds also surpassed 1,600 career kills Saturday and became the UST all-time leader with 1,615, good for No. 7 on the all-time MIAC list.
 
Jane Gibbs (JR-Lakeville) was named MIAC Setter/Defensive Player of the Week. Gibbs played a large role in the Tommies' 4-1 week that included on the road victories against Carleton (3-0), nationally ranked Ithaca (3-0), 2001 final four Wellesley (3-0), and Wheaton (MA). The Tommies' only loss in their last 10 matches was to #2 Cal State Hayward (3-2, 19-17 last game). Against Hayward, Gibbs led UST to a .380 ATK% will putting up a school record 87 assists (17.4 apg). For the week, she had 261 assists (16.3 apg), 16 kills with a .519 ATK%, 53 digs (4.0 dpg), and 11 blocks (.69 bpg). For the four-game Wellesley tournament, UST hit .372.
