VB All-American honors to Katie Reynolds, Jane Gibbs

MIAC volleyball champion St. Thomas had two players named to the 36-player Division III All-America team announced Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA).

Outside hitter Katie Reynolds (SR-Mora), the MIAC Player of the Year, was a first-team pick, and setter Jane Gibbs (JR-Lakeville) was honored on the second team. Three 12-player teams were selected. The duo helped the Tommies post a 30-7 record and break eight team season records.

It's the first time in 10 seasons St. Thomas has had a volleyball All-American.

In NCAA Division III statistics, Gibbs finished third nationally in assists per game (14.64) after leading the nation in 2001; and Reynolds was fourth in kills per game (5.77), 14th in digs per game (5.40) and 15th in attack% (.397).

Reynolds broke nine school records this season -- career marks for kills (1,922), digs (1,684) and total blocks (372); season marks for kills (715), attack% (.397), kills per game (5.77), digs (669) and digs per game (5.40); and match record for kills (36). She also holds the UST season record for solo blocks (58) set in 1999.

Gibbs broke three season records -- season marks for assists (1,567) and assists per game (15.07), and match record for assists (82). With one season to play, Gibbs needs 95 assists to break the school's career assist record.
