Volleyball goes 1-1, takes 3rd at SMU tourney

The St. Thomas volleyball team lost to UW-Oshkosh in four games and beat Wartburg in three games to finish 3-1 and take third of eight teams in the two-day Sugar Loaf Classic in Winona hosted by St. Mary's.

In the Wartburg win (30-19, 30-19, 30-21), UST's Erika Wetzel had 17 digs, 17 kills and hit .444; Ann Eibensteiner had 12 kills and hit .524; and Kristin Storrs had 14 kills and hit .542.

In the Oshkosh loss (28-30, 31-29, 30-20, 30-28), Wetzel had 16 kills and 15 digs and Sarah Rainey had 24 assists and three aces.

UST played both matches Saturday with standout hitter Rachelle Dosch.

The Tommies play next weekend in Indianola, Iowa, in the Simpson tournament.
