
Visiting Gustavus remained in a share of the MIAC women's basketball lead as it had five players score in double figures in Wednesday night's 77-63 win over St. Thomas at CU's Gangelhoff Center.
Molly Mathiowetz had 22 points and six steals to lead the Gusties (10-3 overall, 8-1 MIAC). Gustavus knocked down 22-of-25 free throws, had just 11 turnovers and posted a 34-29 rebounding edge. Brianna Radtke added 16 points and five assists.
The Tommies (8-4, 5-4) pulled within 46-41 midway through the second half but Gustavus answered with a 10-0 run for a 15-point cushion with 9:09 to play. UST never got closer than nine down the stretch and fell to 1-3 on CU's court this season.
UST's Rachel Booth had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Jordyn Sears had 11 points and five assists. Ali Johnson had nine poiints and four rebounds. St. Thomas shot 47% from the floor but was outscored 22-11 at the foul line and 15-6 from 3-point range.
Booth and Becky Theisen each picked up their fourth fouls in the first nine minutes of the second half.
The Tommies play Saturday at St. Ben's (3 p.m.) in St. Joseph.
