The Tommie Women’s Basketball program recently hosted its kickoff meeting for the 2009-2010 Adopt-A-Player Program. The goals of the program, now in its second year, are to provide an opportunity for current women’s basketball players to connect with former players who are out working in their field of study. “The program provides a mentorship for our student athletes at a critical time in their lives. We all need mentors to help us expand and develop into who we are meant to be,” says Head Coach Ruth Sinn.
Current mentors and mentees this year include: Kirsten Vipond Slinde, Amy Kittelson Holbrok, Molly Hayden, Laurie Spinner, Andi Olson, Jazmine Townsend, Rachel Booth, and Becky Theisen.
Hello from St. Thomas!
The St. Thomas Women’s Basketball program focuses on developing our student athletes to reach their greatest potential. It is our hope that this focus will be present on the court as well as off the court. Truly successful programs are about the people, the character they exhibit, the care they show to their fellow man, and the commitment to excellence in all that they do.
Our Adopt-a-Player Program is a unique opportunity for our women’s basketball alumnae. The goal of this program is to couple current players with former players in their given major and field. This mentor/mentee relationship will allow our current players to experience their field in a new and exciting dimension. It will enable these students to learn and connect with people working in, and experienced with, the life style that will soon be their own. This program will continue to build our St. Thomas Women’s Basketball community through relationships between current and former players. All the while, it will continue to foster the caring community that our St. Thomas Women’s Basketball program is all about.
If you are interested in being involved in this program please email me at rasinn@stthomas.edu. I am also working with Mary Zimmer (1984) and Paige Von Bank (1999) on this program. Together we have identified goals and expectations that will help this program reach its greatest potential. The Adopt-a-Player Program will be a great opportunity for all involved to help grow our St. Thomas Women’s Basketball community.
Please consider being a part of our Adopt-a-Player Program and help make our current players better. When you collaborate with others, you win, they win, and the team wins.
Thank You!
