St. Thomas guard Kelly Brandenburg (SR-Brookfield, Wis.) on Monday was named MIAC Player of the Week in women's basketball. It was the first such honor of her career.
Brandenburg averaged nearly 13 points, five rebounds and four assists in three double-digit victories last week. That included a career-high 19 points to go with eight rebounds in a road win at Hamline.
Brandenburg guarded each opponent's top scorer and helped limit the three players to 12-of-48 shooting from the floor.
The Tommies are 19-3 on her career in games when she scores in double figures. She's helped No. 10-ranked UST win seven consecutive games after a one-point season-opening loss at Whitman. That includes a 5-0 run over 11 days in December.
Brandenburg, who has a 3.73 gpa in Mechanical Engineering, has started 36 consecutive games and has played in 93 career games. She will go into January 2014 with 593 points, 281 rebounds, 140 assists, 120 steals. She has converted 73 percent at the foul line.
