The No. 4-ranked Tommie women's basketball team (6-1 overall, 4-0 MIAC) ran its season win streak to six and MIAC victory streak to 28 with Wednesday night's 65-44 home defeat of previously unbeaten St. Mary's (5-1, 3-1) at Schoenecker Arena.
The game was tied 33-33 with 18:04 remaining, but the Tommies used a 21-2 run over the next 10:00 to take control.
Over the final 20:00, St. Thomas shot 52 percent from the floor and helped force 15 Cardinal turnovers. UST had a 15-0 advantage on points off turnovers in the second half.
The Toms also had a 21-4 margin in bench scoring on the night.
Anna Smith and Jenna Dockter each scored 15 points for UST, which played without injured All-America Taylor Young. Kelly Brandenburg chipped in 11 points.
Jamie Stefely had 20 points for SMU, which shot 46 percent in the first half but just 17 percent in the second half. The Cards went 0-for-6 beyond the arc after halftime.
The Tommies are home Dec. 11 to face St. Olaf in their final contest of December.
