Women's Basketball gets 48-38 win at Mac

Senior center Anne Laraway had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the St. Thomas women's basketball team to a 48-38 victory over host Macalester in MIAC play Wednesday night on the Scots' floor.

The win was No. 100 for fifth-year UST head coach Tricia Dornisch (100-44). The Tommies (11-11 overall, 10-9 MIAC) opened up a two-game lead over seventh-place Bethel with three games to play in the race for the sixth and final conference playoff spot.

Senior Afton Hanson had a game-high 18 points for Macalester (0-22, 0-19), which shot 26% from the field.

Vel Williams had nine points and seven rebounds and Kristi Huegel added nine points for the Tommies, who shot just 35% from the field. The game was tied 21-21 at halftime before the Toms pued ahead in the final 20 minutes.

St. Thomas hosts MIAC co-leader Carleton Saturday (1 p.m.).
