Megan Terukina was chosen MVP of the 2013 Tommie women’s cross country team.
Three of her teammates also received awards at the postseason banquet – Melissa Engstrom received the Tommie Award for leadership; Rachel Roth was named Most Improved; and Bridget McGivern was chosen Best Freshman.
Terukina (SO-Cedar Rapids, Iowa) had a breakout season and was the squad’s No. 1 runner at conference and regionals. As a freshman in 2012, Terukina was St. Thomas’ 13th finisher at the 2012 conference meet with a 123rd-place showing and a time of 25:27 for 6,000 meters. This fall, Terukina earned All-MIAC recognition with a 10th-place finish in the field of 245 runners and a time of 23:21. She was the Tommies’ first finisher by 45 seconds. Two weeks later, running in her first regional meet, she placed 25th in a field of 187 finishers in 23:15.14.
Engstrom (JR-Coon Rapids) brought leadership and a positive attitude to a team that was almost entirely sophomores and freshmen.
Roth (SO-Sobieski, Wis.) scored for UST in the conference and regional meets as a top-five team finisher. She placed 56th at conference in a field of 245 in 24:28, improving 70 places and 1:05 from her 2012 performance. She placed 84th out of 187 at regionals.
