The Tommie women's cross country team climbed four slots to 17th nationally in the Coaches' Division III poll released Wednesday.
Carleton (22nd) and St. Olaf (24th) are the MIAC's only other nationally-ranked teams. Other ranked region teams are Nebraska Wesleyan (11th), Luther (15th), Grinnell (28th) and Wartburg (33rd). Those teams will compete Nov. 10 at the regional meet hosted on the St. Olaf campus in Northfield. From three to fice region teams will advance to nationals, Nov. 17 at St. Olaf.
Coach Joe Sweeney's Tommies repeated as MIAC champions last Saturday in a tight finish. UST (74), Carleton (76) and St. Olaf (80) had one of closest three-team battles in conference history.
The Tommies are led by junior Katie Theisen, sophomore Kelly Russ, and senior Julie Anderson. Theisen is a three-time All-MIAC honoree who placed 38th at the NCAA meet last November and has placed first, second or fourth in every race this fall.
