Katie Thieisen placed fourth out of 160 finishers to lead the St. Thomas women to a fourth-place team finish at Saturday's NCAA regional cross country meet at St. Olaf. The Tommies took fourth out of 23 teams and that should be good enough to get them a return trip to next Saturday's NCAA meet.
Luther (87), Nebraska Wesleyan (118) and Wartburg (160) took the three automatic berths to nationals. St. Thomas (197), St. Olaf (201), Loras (206) and St. Benedict (210) rounded out the top seven. The Tommies likely will claim one of the national at-large berths when the field is announced Sunday.
Theisen was fourth in 22:02, 11 seconds behind Bethel's Marie Borner and 24 second behind winner Janet Dobyns of Luther. Julie Anderson took 31st (23:20), Kelly Russ was 36th (23:29), Raynee Degrio was 56th (23:55), Kalsey Larson was 70th (24:08), Allie Metzler was 73rd (24:11) and Anne Iddins was 80th (24:16).
