Junior Laura Heck won medalist honors in a field of 100 players as the St. Thomas women's golf team finished fourth, just six shots out of second, at the 17-team Wartburg Invitational in Waverly, Iowa. The 36-hole tournament concluded with 18 holes on Sunday. Heck shot 76-78/154 for a two-stroke victory.
No. 3-ranked Gustavus pulled away for a 23-stroke victory with rounds of 324-309/633. No. 4-ranked Illinois Wesleyan shot 331-325/656 for second and was followed closely by No. 12 Wartburg (326-331/657), No. 7 St. Thomas (335-327/662), No. 14 UW-Eau Claire (340-328/668) and Macalester (345-334/679) in the 17-team field.
Amy Anderson tied for 21st with scores of 87-80/167. and her Sunday score was 12th best of the day out of 100 players. Chelsa Dooley shot 87-81/168 to tied for 25th; Stephanie Hird shot 86-88/174; and Megan Owens shot 86-95/181. Competing as individuals, Stephanie Kreb tied for 40th at 88-86/174; Kelly Westerham shot 94-90/184; and Shannon Richter shot 101-89/190.

The St. Thomas women's golf team sits in fourth place, 11 shots off the lead, in a strong field after one day of the 36-hole Wartburg Invitational in Waverly, Iowa. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.
Tommie junior Laura Heck leads a field of 100 players with a first-day 76.
No. 3-ranked Gustavus (324), No. 12 Wartburg (326), No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan (331), No. 7 St. Thomas (335), NAIA midwest power St. Ambrose (339) and No. 14 UW-Eau Claire (340) hold the top six spots in the 17-team field. The Gusties edged Wartburg by one stroke to win last weekend's Eau Claire tournament.
Stephanie Hird and Megan Owens each shot 86s and sit in 32nd place, and Chelsa Dooley and Amy Anderson shot 87 to share 38th. Stephanie Kreb shot 88 as an individual.
