The host Tommies scored an empty-net goal with 1:16 left in sudden-death goal to take a 2-1 win over Concordia-Moorhead in MIAC women's hockey play in Mendota Heights.
The Cobs pulled their goalie with 1:55 left to gain an extra attacker. UST got a two-player breakaway
and ended the game with an easy tap in goal by Taylor Schluter. On Friday, Schluter had a short-handed goal.
St. Thomas (14-8-3 overall, 12-4-2 MIAC) will play as the third seed in the MIAC playoffs Thursday against second-seed St. Catherine. That match likely will be played in Inver Grove Heights at 7 p.m.
Kristin Grossman scored late in period one for a 1-0 Tommie lead.
Concordia's Kit Hollway scored with 4:32 left in the third period to tie the score 1-1.
Lauren Bradel (shown at right) had 42 saves and won her 49th career game, tops in conference history. On the weekend the senior All-American stopped 73 of 75 shots. UST helped hold the Cobbers to 0-for-8 on the power play on Saturday after a 1-for-6 showing on Friday.
On her career, Bradel went 7-0 vs. the Cobbers and stopped 175-of-178 shots in seven games.
Maggie Haroldson stopped 28 of 29 shots for the Cobbers (12-11-2, 7-9-2).
