The No. 8-ranked St. Thomas women's hockey team outshot No. 7-rated UW-River Falls 41-16 but lost 1-0 late in Friday's non-conference game in Mendota Heights.
Cassi Campbell had 41 saves for UWRF (1-0) , which scored the gamne's only goal at 10:38 of period two. Jamie Briski stole the puck in front of the net and had a spinning shot for a quick goal.
The Tommies (1-2) were unable to convert on eight power-play tries, while the Falcons went 0-for-6 on the power play. Lauren Bardel had 15 saves.
The teams had played to a 3-3 overtime tie last season.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at UW-Eau Claire (2 p.m.).
