Junior Kirsten Moran scored in the 56th minute and junior Erin Sprangers added a late insurance goal to lead the Player picunbeaten St. Thomas women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Carleton in MIAC play Wednesday at UST's South Field.

The Tommies (6-0-3 overall, 3-0-2 MIAC) had lost four consecutive one-goal decisions to Carleton since 2004. Coach Sheila McGill's Toms remained atop the MIAC standings and stayed two points ahead of 2-0-2 Concordia and 3-1 Macalester, which each had shutout victories Wednesday.

Sprangers, who scored an unassisted goal in the 87th minute, now has collected seven goals in nine games. She beat two defenders to the ball then punched it into the left side past the Knights' keeper.

Sophomore Amanda Domeier was in goal all 90 minutes and made three saves. It was the Tommies' fourth shutout in their last six games.

Abie Krause had the assist on Moran's goal.

The Knights were aggressive in the first half and had a couple of good scoring chances. The Tommies were more effective as the second half played out and outshot Carleton 7-2 in the final 45:00.

The Tommies are home Saturday to play Hamline (1 p.m.).
