The St. Thomas women's swimming and diving team won seven of 10 events at Saturday's Augsburg Invite at St. Catherine's Butler Pool -- the first competition of 2008-09.  UST, Hamline and St. Mary's had men's and women's teams entered, while Augsburg and St. Catherine had women's teams.

Freshman Maddie Frost of Stillwater won the 100 Fly in 1:03.56 -- a time that ranks 10th on the Tommies' all-time list. Frost also won the 100 IM (1:06.61). Sophomore All-MIAC swimmer Becca Ney won two events -- the 100 Back (1:03.61) and 100 Free (55.99) -- and took second in the 100 IM (1:06.92).

On the men's side, junior Peter Mullee won the 100 Back (52.79) and 100 Free (48.25). Mulllee's 100 back time ranks third all-time. Freshman Erik Huls won the 100 fly in 54.11, a time that ranks ninth all-time.

UST coach Tom Hodgson also said that along with the winners, sophomore Grant Frost, sophomore Matt Moore, junior Sydney Kuramoto, junior Jena Root, freshman Samantha Simon and sophomore Samantha Zastrow also had very good all-around meets.

Root was second to Ney in the 100 backstroke (1:04.06). Grant Frost was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.50).

St. Thomas competes next Saturday at the MIAC Relays in Northfield.
