Women's Swimming edges Oles in Sat. meet

Senior All-American Jena Root swept both backstroke events to lead the St. Thomas women’s swimming and diving team at Saturday’s three-team St. Olaf Invitational.  

When scored as double dual meets, Division II St. Cloud State topped UST 177-119, while the Tommies edged St. Olaf 150-148. St. Cloud State won 10 of 16 events. St. Thomas had four firsts, and the Oles won two events. 

Root won the 100 back in 59.85 and the 200 back in 2:12.27; Ney won the 100 free in 53.74; Karly Harrod won the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.43. 

The Toms had runner-up placings in the 200 medley relay team of Root, Katie Bromback, Ali Krieger and Ney in 1:51.70; the 200 free relay unit of Wendy Consoer, Amy Krueger, Layla Clauss and Alexis Rodarmel in 1:43.97; Ney in the 200 free in 1:58.48 and 200 IM in 2:15.50; Bromback in the 200 fly in 2:13.35.

Thirds were scored by Bromback in the 100 fly (1:01.23); Clauss in the 1000 free in 11:09.11 and in the 500 free in 5:23.21; and Jenny Bruno in the 200 back in 2:15.38. 

Fourths were scored by Sam Simon in the 1000 free (11:14.00); Ali Krieger in the 100 back in 1:03.99; Root in the 50 free in 25.77; Sara Wappes in three-meter diving with 132.35 points; Krieger in the 200 back in 2:16.78; Bromback in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.16; and Bruno in the 200 IM in 2:19.83;
