The St. Thomas women opened their 2010 indoor track and field season Saturday at the Bethel Open. There were no team scores kept in the competition that included the host Royals, Gustavus, St. Olaf and Northwestern. The Tommies, who held out some athletes, came home with eight firsts, seven seconds and five thirds.
Nikki Arola won the 55 dash (7.60) and the 200 (26.93). UST swept the 4x200 relay (1:48.50) and 4x400 relay (4:09.07).
Other Tommie winners were Cathy Reeves in the 600 (1:43.24) Kelly Russ in the 800 (2:20.37); freshman Taylor Berg in the 1000 (3:11.37); and Megan Honan in the weight throw (49-4 1-2).
Runner-up finishes were posted by Jenna Ewing in the 55 (7.68), Bekah Frank in the 600 (1:46.66); Laura Janas in the 55 hurdles (8.98); Julianna Gorder in the long junp (15-4); freshman Kristie Miller in the triple jump (32-4 1-4); freshman Nicole Flackey in the shot put (37-5 1-4); and Jenna Lewis in the weight throw (44-3 1-4).
Thirds were scored by Larissa Peyton in the 800 (2:28.43); Traci Pastoors in the triple jump (31-5 3-4); Amy Maas in the shot put (37-3 1-4) and the weight throw (42-5 1-2); and Gina Michaels in the high jump (4-3 1-4).
The Toms compete next Saturday at the UW-Stout Open.
