Fourth-seed St. Ben's pulled out two of three close singles matches to edge fifth-seed St. Thomas 5-4 in Friday's quarterfinal match at the MIAC women's tennis tournament in St. Peter.
The Blazers had beaten UST 8-1 four weeks ago but trailed 2-1 here Friday after the Toms won at Nos. 1-2 doubles. Alexandra Frank rallied to win at first singles in three sets, but St. Ben's won a three-set match at second singles and a close two-set decision at No. 5 singles.
Madeline Gail and Hadley Syverud won at second doubles 8-4 as they avenged an 8-6 loss to CSB's Aly Brendell and Kylie Huether.
UST closed the season 11-7. The Blazers (16-8) advance to Saturday's semifinals to face top-seed Gustavus.
