Add another honor for St. Thomas senior distance ace Taylor Berg. The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTRFCCCA) has named Berg its Central Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year for the 2013 Outdoor Season.
Berg also won the region award for the 2013 Indoor season.
Berg is seeded first in the nation in the 5,000 (16:34) and fifth in the 1,500 (4:28) heading into the May 24-28 national meet. She had a hand in 28 points last weekend with wins in the 1,500 and 5,000 and a 4x800 relay anchor to help the Tommies rally to a 28-point team victory in the conference outdoor meet.
A six-time All-America, Berg has won all five individual five conference meet races this year she’s entered in cross country and indoor and outdoor track. Last fall, she placed eighth of 277 runners to become a Division III All-America. In March, she took fourth in the NCAA Indoor 5,000 and anchored the fourth-place distance-medley relay.
Berg has broken six school records this school year. She ran on an NCAA champion distance medley relay at 2010 indoor nationals.
Berg has been nominated for Academic All-District with a 3.39 grade-point average in Mathematics.
