Senior Taylor Berg finished second in Saturday's 1,500 (4:18.12) and 5,000 (16:33.15) for 16 team points to lead the Tommies to a ninth-place women's finish at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in LaCrosse, Wis.

St. Thomas took third in the 4x400 relay and seventh in the 4x100 relay to finish with 24 team points.

Berg finshed just behind junior Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh, the winner of Saturday's 800, 1500 and 5,000.

Berg finished her Tommie career as an eight-time All-America, including five this school year. Last fall in cross country, she placed eighth of 277 runners to become a Division III All-America. In March, she took fourth in the NCAA Indoor 5,000 and anchored the fourth-place distance-medley relay.

Berg, who broke six school records this school year, also ran on an NCAA champion distance medley relay at 2010 indoor nationals.

St. Thomas took third in the 4x400 relay and seventh in the 4x100 relay to finish with 24 team points.  Angela Tipp, Erika Tipp, Kayla Goeman and Van Heel clocked 3:44.92 to lower their own school record they set on Thursday. In the 4x100, Mallory Burnham, Van Heel, Christina Rozeske and Erika Tipp clocked 47.14 to lower their own school record set earlier this spring.

Van Heel took 14th in the triple jump (37-5 3-4).

Women's outdoor track and field is the sixth St. Thomas sport with a top-10 national finish in 2012-13, joining volleyball (first), football (second), men's basketball (third), softball (tie ninth) and women's basketball (tie ninth).
