4 NCAA provo performances for Women's Track

The St. Thomas women's track and field team had four NCAA provisional qualifying times and marks at Saturday's Manitou Classic at St. Olaf.

UST had five firsts, eight seconds and four thirds in the non-team scored meet that included athletes from 18 schools.

Nikki Arola won the 400 meters in 56.91 -- which ranks fifth best in Division III this year.

Erin Sprangers placed second in the 800 meters in 2:12.89 -- which ranks sixth best in Diviison III this year.

UST's 4x100 relay unit of Shionna Evans, Arola, Molly Demmer and Jenna Ewing placed first in 48.26 to lower its NCAA provo time and move to seventh best on the D-III season chart.

Alyssa Salomone placed second in the high jump in an NCAA provo mark of 5-5, which is tied fof fifth on the D-III list. Salomone also placed third in the long jump (16-8 3-4).

Ewing won the 100 meters in 12.95. Evans won the 200 in 25.97 and took second in the 400 in 57.98. Megan Honan won the hammer in 149-2.

Melissa Kuebler took second in the 100 hurdles (15.85) and the 400 hurdles (65.73). Felisha Willaert was second in the discus (135-9) and took fifth in the shot put (36-9). Allie Metzler was second in the 10,000 (37:59.93). UST also placed second in the 4x400 relay (4:01.41).

Thirds were scored by Demmer in the 100 (13.38); Kelly Russ in the 800 (2:15.79); Jenna Lewis in the shot put (38-0 1-4). Fourths were scored by Raynee DeGrio in the 800 (2:19.49), Emma Spoon in the steeplechase (12:18.63); and Laura Janas in the 100 hurdles (16.24).

Fifths were recorded by Sarah Lemke in the hammer (135-9), Julianna Gorder in the long jump (16-4 1-2) and Angela McGehee in the pole vault (10-2). Sixths were scored by Becky Theisen in the 200 (27.62), lewis in the discus (121-4), and Rachel Borka in the javelin (94-7). Sevenths were scored by Larissa Peyton in the 800 (2:21.72) and Julia Brandes in the 1,500 (5:04.30).

The Tommies will have some athletes in next weekend's Drake Relays in Des Moines, and others in a meet next Saturday at Macalester.
