Sweeney, Cress Receive Central Region Awards

Roman Cress, a national participant in the indoor 400-meter dash, has been named the 2000 NCAA Division III Central Region's Athlete of the Year in Indoor Track and Field. Cress, a sophomore from Minneapolis, has the fastest 55-meter dash time among the 14 qualifiers in Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship. Earlier this year, Cress helped UST to its 16th straight MIAC Indoor Championship while setting records in the 55 and 200-meter dashes.
Joe Sweeney, in his 20th season as head coach of UST's Women's Indoor Track and Field team, was selected as Coach of the Year in Women's Indoor Track and Field for Division III Central Region. Sweeney had six athletes compete in the Division III Indoor Championship. Earlier this year, UST won the MIAC Indoor Championship for the 10th time in 12 years.
The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents these awards annually to the top athletes and coaches in each of the NCAA Division III regions.
