Toms have good showings at Carleton track meets

The St. Thomas men had seven firsts and seven runner-up finishes to dominate Saturday's non-team scored Carleton Relays. For the women, UST had some strong showings with a partial squad taking third of five teams at Monday's Carleton meet.
Greg Kaiser matched his previous NCAA automatic mark in the javelin by winning in 201-6. UST also had two NCAA provisional marks -- the 4x100 relay won in 41.66, while Joe Bilek was second in the hammer in 168-8. UST also set a meet record in winning the 4x200 relay in 1:27.03.
Other firsts for the Tommies came from the sprint medley relay (3:32.01); Justin Hall in the 400 (49.00); Roman Cress in the 100 (10.90); and Andrew Kiselius in the triple jump (44-6).
Second were recorded by Mark Bates in the 400 dash (49.48) and the 400 hurdles (55.05); Antoine Ellis in the 200 (22.8); Dan Draine in the 3000 steeplechase (9:21.31); Craig Benson in the 110 hurdles (15.52); and Jeremy Heckman in the 100 (11.40).
Other top-five men placers were Ryan Quinn (15.63) and Parker Gunderson (15.88), fourth and fifth in the 110 hurdles; Mike Gruba, third in the 800 (1:56.56); the 4x800 relay, third in 8:02.65); Andrew Hilliard, fourth in the 400 hurdles (55.58); Nick Stahly, fourth in the 200 (23.08) and the 200 (23.08); and Chris Milton, fourth in the pole vault (14-5 1-4).
see complete Carleton Men's Track Results hereFor the UST women, Kara Hedin had three firsts including NCAA provisional marks in the triple jump (37-1 1-4) and the 100 hurdles (15.04). She also won the 400 dash (58.54). The Toms' Katie Bestul, Heidi Vogel, Emily Haley and Jill Ylonen won the 4x100 relay with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.57. Jill Janikowski won the shot put (35-9 1-4) and discus (112-3), and took third in the javelin (97-4). Haley won the long jump (16-6) and was fourth in the 100 (12.85) and 200 (26.50).
Other UST top-four placewinners were Ylonen, second in the 100 (12.73) and third in the 200 (26.44); the 4x400 relay, second in 4:11.56; the 4x800 relay, second in 10:14.79; Kelly Faris, fourth in the 1,500 (4:54.64); Emily Menden, third in the 400 hurdles (65.44) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.63); Katie Reynolds, fourth in the javelin (85-9); and Katie Joyce, fourth in the pole vault (9-2 1-2).

Cress will run the 100; Bilek will throw the hammer; Kaiser will throw the javelin; Ellis, Heckman, Hall and Cress will run the 4x200; Stahly, Heckman, Hall and Cress will run the 4x100; Ellis, Stahly, Bates and Bryce Miller will run the sprint medley; and Steve Henderson, Bates, Gruba and Ryan Kollmann will run the distance medley.
The Tommie women will enter four relays at Drake -- Bestul, Hedin, Menden and Katie Arnes will run the shuttle hurdle; Bestul, Vogel, Haley and Ylonen will run the 4x100; Vogel, Tish Dusich, Haley and Hedin will run the 4x400; and Ylonen, Vogel, Hedin and Dusich will run the sprint medley.
