Women's Track: Baloun breaks hammer record

Crystal Baloun broke her own school record in the hammer to lead Friday's Tommie showings at St. Olaf's Manitou Open.
Baloun's throw of 141-7 placed seventh and broke her own school record of 128-0.
Teresa Smock (2:12.39), Mollie Hupp (2:15.37) and Brigid Power (2:20.27) went 2-3-5 in the 800 meters. Smock's time just missed the NCAA automatic time of 2;12.00 but met the provisional standard. St. Olaf's Megan Daymont ran 2:09 for first.
The Tommies also had some good long jumps as Jill Ylonen (17-9 1/2), Heidi Vogel (17-6) and Theresa Meath (17-2) placed 2-4-7. UST had three placewinners in the javelin with Erika Wetzel (109-1), Callie Peotter (102-4) and Katie Reynolds (101-8).
Ylonen was second in the 100 (13.13) and fifth in the 200 (27.72). Vogel was third in the 100 (13.20). The Toms also took second in the 4x100 relay (50.32).
Karolien Bastiaens won the pole vault (11-0 1/4); Alano Lucio was sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:24.92); Molly Bauman was seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.42) and ninth in the 400 hurdles.
