February 20, 2005
Junior Kristal Grigsby and freshman Selina Dehn eclipsed NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the triple jump Saturday at the non-team scored University of Minnesota Parents' Day competition.

Grigsby jumped 37-1 3/4 for fourth and Dehn took fifth in 36-9, beating the provisional cutoff by 3/4 of an inch. The NCAA automatic qualifying mark for indoor nationals is 39-0 1/2. Grigsby's leap was just six inches off the Tommie school record set in 1996 by her event coach Megan Pfeiffer Hanson.

Andretta Colley improved her NCAA provisional mark in the long jump as she cleared 18-0 1/2 for fourth place. That was just 1/2 off the school record set in 2004 by Grigsby. Colley also placed ninth in the 200 (27.38).

Grigsby was eighth in the long jump (17-8 1/4), second of 39 entries in the 200 meters (26.64), and eighth in the 60 meters (7.98).

Senior Brigid Power was second in the mile in 5:05.99, just .20 off the NCAA provisional time. Power also took third in the 1,000 (3:05.39).

The Tommies placed third in the 800 relay (1:50.82) and held out their top runners and took eighth in the 4x400 relay (4:13.88).

Other top-10 placewinners were Christina Chapman, third in the 200 (26.74); Molly Bauman, eighth in the 200 (27.07); Alicia Wolff, ninth in the 600 (1:39.82); Ronni Hamilton, eighth in the 1,000 (3:09.63); and Chelsea Guettinger, sixth in the 5,000 (18:35.71).

St. Thomas has one last indoor meet -- Friday at St. Olaf -- prior to the March 4-5 MIAC Championships in Moorhead.
