Toms send 6 women, 6 men to NCAA track in several events

see link to NCAA track meet home page with heat sheets, schedule, qualifiers hereSt. Thomas will have six women (two relays/five individual events) and six men (four individual events/one relay) at this week's NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The action begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.
The Tommie women have a shot at a top-eight finish. Coach Joe Sweeney's team took 13th last year at nationals and fifth in March at the 2005 indoor nationals. Coach Steve Mathre's men placed ninth at the 2004 outdoor nationals and 10th in March at indoor nationals.
Kristal Grigsby (JR-Mpls./Breck) will defend her NCAA title in the long jump and also will compete in the triple jump, high jump, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Andretta Colley (SR-Jamaica), an All-American last March at indoor nationals, will compete in the 4x100, triple jump and long jump.
Two-time All-American Brigid Power (SR-Eden Prairie) will close out her career in the 1,500 meters. Molly Bauman (JR-Coon Rapids) will run the 400 hurdles, the 4x100 and the 4x400. Christina Chapman (SO-Edina) will run both relays and Alicia Wolff (SR-Forest Lake) will run the 4x400.
The Tommie men will run the 4x400 relay again and look to extend a streak of top-five finishes in that event to seven. UST has placed second nationally in the indoor 4x400 the last two years. Carson Glad (SR-Cold Spring/Rocori) and Jason Schwietz (SR-Forest Lake) will close out their career in the 4x400 and Glad also will run the 200. Cory Fusco (SR-Eagan/Eastview) will run the 800; Dave Diercks (SR-Faribault) will throw the javelin; P.J. Theisen (SO-New Prague) will run the 400 hurdles and the 4x400; and J.J. Kirby (JR-LeSueur/LeSueur-Henderson) will run on the 4x400.
