Women's Track gets six firsts at Border Battle

The St. Thomas women's indoor track and field team won six events at Saturday's four-team Border Battle meet in Northfield, as senior All-American Kristal Grigsby had a hand in three firsts.

UW-Eau Claire took first at 184 points followed by UW-Stout (155.5), St. Thomas (144.5) and St. Olaf (129).

Grigsby didn't compete in the long jump, an event in which she's ranked first nationally in Division III. But she won the triple jump in an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 37-0 1-4, wich ranks her ninth nationally. She also tied for first with teammate Selina Dehn in the high jump (5-0 1-2), and won the 55 meters (7.36), just off the NCAA provisional time of 7.33. Dehn also was third in the long jump (16-6) and third in the triple jump (35-5 1-4).

The Toms also won the 4x200 meter relay (1:47.36) and 4x400 relay (4:02.57). Freshman Katie Theisen won the 600 (1:39.53) and was fourth in the long jump (16-1 1-2).

Other UST top-six finishers were Christina Chapman, second in the 400 (59.51); Molly Bauman, second in the 55 hurdles (9.06); Kalsey Larson third in the 800 (2:23.55); Carol Comp was third in the shot put (37-3); Heidi Zuehlke was third in the pole vault (8-8); Chelsea Guettinger was fourth in the 3,000 (10:59.81); Ronni Hamilton was fifth in the 800 (2:26.02); Anne Iddins was fifth in the 3,000 (11:06.06); Meghan Kirby was fifth in the shot put (36-2 1-4); Michelle Binn was fifth in the weight throw (37-7 1-2); Nikki Mammen was fifth in the high jump (4-10 1-2); Rachel Karst was sixth in the pole vault (8-2); Meghan Mayer was sixth in the 800 (2:26.57).
