Women 's Track wins seventh MIAC title in row

The St. Thomas men's and women's track and field teams swept the team titles for the seventh year in a row at the MIAC Indoor Championships. The two-day meet concluded Saturday at Carleton.

The St. Thomas women (125.7 points) topped co-runners-up Gustavus and Concordia by 29 points. The Toms claimed the women's team title for the 19th time in the 22-year history of the event. Coach Joe Sweeney's Tommie squads have now won 53 of a possible 72 all-time conference team titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.

The Tommies won four events and took second in three others. They scored in 16 events overall with points from 16 different athletes. The Toms scored 49.7 points in the long jump, high jump and triple jump.

Seniors Kristal Grigsby (30 individual points in five events) and Molly Bauman (37 points in five events), and junior Christina Chapman (34 points in five events) led the Tommie victory.

Grigsby won the long jump in an NCAA Division III-leading mark of 18-10; took second in the high jump (5-4 1-2, NCAA provisional); was third in the 55 meters (7.39); and placed sixth in the 200 (26.53) and triple jump (35-6 1-2).

Bauman repeated as 55 hurdles champ (8.46); ran on the winning 4x200 relay in a meet record 1:44.70 with Chapman, Kate Staat and freshman Shionna Evans; ran on the winning 4x400 relay with Chapman, Evans and freshman Katie Theisen; took fifth in the 200 (26.51); and ran on the seventh-place distance-medley relay in 12:49.40 with Ronni Hamilton, Meghan Mayer and Kalsey Larson.

Chapman was second in the 400 (58.99), third in the 200 (26.09) and led off the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Theisen was a part of 25 points with the 4x400 victory, a second in the triple jump (36-6 3-4), a fifth in the long jump (17-3 1-4), a seventh in the 600 (1:39.56) and an eighth in the 800 (2:22.99).

Selina Dehn scored 12 points as she took fourth in the high jump (5-2 1-4), seventh in the long jump (17-10), and fourth in the triple jump (35-10).

Jenny Olin placed third in the 5,000 (18:25.61). Chelsea Guettinger placed seventh in the 5,000 (18:43.32) and Jada Lewis placed seventh in the high jump (5-1) and seventh in the triple jump (34-4 1-4).

Carol Comp took eighth in the weight throw (42-2 3-4). Nikki Mammen and Beth Ebert tied for eighth in the high jump (4-11).
