Grigsby clears 19-0 in long jump, nears NCAA automatic

Kristal Grigsby leaped 19-0 in Saturday's long jump at the Duke Invitational, just 1-2 inch off an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. The two-time Division III national champion placed fourth out of 44 in the event as she posted the nation's second best D-III jump this season.

UST also just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 4x400 relay as it clocked 3:58.64 -- just .64 off the provisional time. The Toms also ran 49.44 in the 4x100 relay.

Molly Bauman clocked 15.74 in the 100 hurdles; Anne Iddins ran 11:43.94 in the 3K steeplechase; In the 800, Ronni Hamilton ran 2:27.10 and Kalsey Larson clocked 2:29.93; Shara Guidry threw 129-6 in the discus; Selina Dehn jumped 16-0 1-4 in the long jump; and in the shot put, Carol Comp threw 38-9 and Guidry threw 34-4.

The Toms also had a few athletes compete at Saturday's UW-River Falls Invitational. Nikki Mammen was fourth in the high jump at 4-11 and sixth in the long jump at 15-7 3-; Jane Dolan placed sixth in the 1,500 in 5:11.04; in the discus, Emily Kuznar threw 109-7 for eighth and Liz Kapsner threw 100-6 for ninth; in the pole vault, Heidi Zuehlke was eighth in 8-9 1-2 and Rachel Karst was ninth in 8-3 1-2; in the 400 hurdles Ashley Misgen took sixth in 1:13.55; in the shot put, Meghan Kirby was ninth in 35-2 1-2; in the hammer, Kuznar was seventh in 115-10; and in the high jump, Alysa Salomone was fifth in 4-11 and Beth Ebert was seventh in 4-9.
