Molly Bauman, James Ewer get MIAC weekly awards
April 18, 2006
Hurdler Molly Bauman (SR-Coon Rapids) and sprinter James Ewer (FR-Lakeville) received MIAC weekly awards as conference women's and men's Track Athletes of the Week.
Bauman won the 400 hurdles in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 62.70 at last Thursday's Carleton Invitational. This time currently ranks third nationally in Division III. She also won the 100 hurdles (15.37), and placed fourth in the long jump (16-3).
The versatile Bauman, a relay All-American, has been a big reason why UST has won six of a possible seven MIAC indoor and outdoor team championships in her era. At last month's conference indoor meet, she repeated as 55 hurdles champ (8.46); ran on the winning 4x200 relay in a meet record 1:44.70; ran on the winning 4x400 relay; took fifth in the 200 (26.51); and ran on the seventh-place distance-medley relay.
Ewer won the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.84 at last Thursday's Meet of the Saints here at St. Thomas. Ewer's time of 10.84 is .01 of a second off the NCAA provisional standard. Ewer also won the men's long jump with a jump of 22-3 1-2. He currently ranks first in both events in the MIAC. Ewer also ran on the Toms' 4x100 relay which took first in 42.75, close to the provisional cutoff of 42.00.
Ewer scored 26 individual points (first 55 meters, second 200 meters, second long jump) and ran on the winning 4x400 at last month's MIAC indoor meet.
