Leonard Jones graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1995. As a student, Jones won 19 All-American honors in track and field, and won 9 individual NCAA titles (5 in long jump, two each in high jump and triple jump). He was the only Division III athlete to win 7 NCAA indoor championships, and was the first Division III athlete to win three events in one NCAA Championship meet. Jones led St. Thomas to 7 top-5 NCAA team finishes in 7 NCAA indoor/outdoor meets. St. THomas went 8 for 8 in conference team titles during his era. He won 23 MIAC individual titles. Jones broke 9 St. Thomas records and still holds 7 of them. He also broke 6 MIAC records, still holding 5. He was a provisional qualifier for the 1992 Olympic Trials. Jones also lettered twice in football (9 touchdowns, 25 yards per catch) and once in basketball.
