Wed. Wrap: Baseball splits with Stevens Point

Freshman Graham Laubsher and senior Ben Meyer combined to strike out 12 and allow just one run as Tommie Baseball scored a 6-1 win over UW-Stevens Point in the first game of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader in Auburndale, Fla.

The Pointers (6-4) broke open a 2-2 game in the late innings and won the nine-inning nightcap 5-2 for a split.

St. Thomas (5-7) won four of its last five on its six-game Florida trip. The Tommies allowed just four earned runs over six contests to lower their season ERA to 3.09.

Senior Hunter Hart made it three consecutive games with a homer as his three-run shot in game one put St. Thomas ahead to stay at 3-1. He finished 2-for-2 with two walks. Joe Burnley had an RBI triple and scored on Rock Cates' single. Cates and Zach Gottfredsen each had three hits on the doubleheader.

Laubsher struck out six and walked two and allowed one run in five innings. Schaefbauer allowed two hits but struck out the other six batters he faced in his two innings.

UST game two starter Grant Gunderson worked into the seventh inning and allowed two earned runs.

The Tommies are scheduled to open MIAC play Saturday at home against Bethel in two games (1 p.m.), although the forecast looks iffy.
