Baseball's Hart, Molin get MIAC weekly honors

Tommie Baseball seniors Drew Molin and Hunter Hart on Monday were named MIAC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. It's the first such honor on his career for Hart, and second for Molin.

Molin started and worked six shutout innings in a 3-0 victory over No. 2-ranked UW-Whitewater. Molin and two relievers ended the Warhawks' streak of 57 games without being shutout. The lefty walked two and struck out three and scattered three hits. Molin worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning with two strikeouts. In two appearances this season, the Cottage Grove, Minn., native has not allowed a run in 10 innings. In his last seven starts datung back to 2017, Molin is 4-0 with an 0.82 ERA and 47 strikeouts and six walks in 43.2 innings.

Hart homered in three consecutive games, including an early two-run homer in a 3-0 win over No. 2-ranked UW-Whitewater. In a 3-1 week for the Tommies, the Delano, Minn., native drove in nine runs and reached base nine times with a single, three walks, two doubles and three HRs. He finished with a .429 batting average, a .529 on-base percentage and a 1.21 slugging percentage. He also had a three-run homer in a 6-1 defeat of UW-Stevens Point. The Tommies are 8-0 in games on Hart's career when he has hit a home run. Hart has 78 hits, 46 walks and 70 RBI in 89 career games.

St. Thomas (5-7) is rebounding from a 1-6 start with wins in four of its last five games. The Tommies are scheduled to have three doubleheaders this week, including conference and home-field openers, but the snow and cold temperatures in the forecast could postpone some or all of those games until at least the weekend.
