Junior Dan Bollingberg went 8-for-8 on the day as St. Thomas Baseball slapped 31 hits to lead a 12-6, 11-1 sweep of Augsburg in Saturday's MIAC doubleheader at Koch Diamond. Game two was halted by a run rule after eight innings.
The Tommies (19-16 overall, 11-9 MIAC) ended a rare five-game losing streak, clinched fifth place in the final 11-team MIAC standings, and secured a winning season.
They close the season Monday with two non-conference home games against Wartburg.
Bollingberg scored five runs, drove in three and had one double with seven singles. That raised his season average to .319.
In game two, Josh Thorp had a two-run homer and went 3-for-4 with four RBI, and sophomore Graham Laubscher (3-4) had a career-best 13 strikeouts over seven innings. He allowed a solo homer, three total hits and two walks.
In the opener, the Tommies (18-16) hit six doubles in a 15-hit attack. Senior lefty Henry DeCaster pitched into the sixth inning and struck out three to get his sixth season win and 16th career victory here. DeCaster beat nine of the 10 MIAC baseball schools at least once during his three-year run with the Purple (he never faced Carleton).
