Schnettler shutout helps Baseball split season enders

Senior Jackson Schnettler closed his collegiate career in style with a four-hit shutout to lead Tommie Baseball to a 1-0 walk-off victory over Wartburg in non-conference play Monday at Koch Diamond.

The Knights won game two 6-1 for a split of the season-ending doubleheader.

Another St. Thomas senior, Evan Kolker, had a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Dan Bollinberg with the winning run.

In was the first pitching victory in five season starts for Schnettler (1-2), who struck out four and walked just one. He retired 20 of the final 23 batters he faced.

In the night cap, St. Thomas left nine on base, including the bases loaded in the third and seventh innings.

The Tommies closed the season 20-17 and placed fifth of 11 teams in the MIAC standings. Nine seniors will be lost to graduation, including ace picther Henry DeCaster and three-year starting OF Sam Cobbs.
