Tommie Football rising senior starting QB Jacques Perra has been nominated for the 2018 American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
Allstate Insurance Company and the AFCA recently announced 169 nominees for the 2018 prestigious college football honors list -- including one student-athlete each from Bethel, Macalester, St. John's and St. Thomas. The winning 11 FBS and 11 other recipients will be announced in September.
Perra took a 2017 a spring break volunteer trip with Students Today Leaders Forever. That bus trip made stops in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Lexington, Nashville, and ended up in Atlanta, and included a variety of community service activities.
He's also joined in the Tommies' annual fundraisers with St. Jude Children's Hospital with St. Thomas teammates -- the No. 1-ranked collegiate fundraising group in U.S. last two years, including teams, fraternities and sororities.
Perra was also active in his three semesters as a University of Minnesota student-athlete. He participated their in Athletes in Action; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Hope Week; and the TOPS program at Twin Cities elementary schools.
He's made the Dean's List four of five semesters at St. Thomas, with a 3.65 gpa as a Finance major.
Perra worked a summer sales internship in 2017, and is busy with a finance research internship in summer 2018.
On the field, Perra was named all-conference in 2017 as a first-year starter for St. Thomas' NCAA Division III playoff quarterfinal team, which closed the season ranked No. 4 nationally. He has thrown for 3,487 yards and 30 touchdown passes in 23 games with the Tommies with just 11 interceptions. Last season, he threw for 24 TDs and ran for six, and also averaged 47.1 yards on 14 punts. He ranked in the top 32 among Division III QBs in passing yards, passing TDs, yards per completion and points responsible for with his hand in 30 TDs.
Perra was on a select list of college QBs in 2017 who threw a TD pass in 13 or more games. Either Perra or his predecessor at QB Alex Fenske have given UST a current streak of 22 consecutive games with at least one TD pass.
At Roseville High, Perra was chosen the Gatorade Player of Year for Minnesota football and was a three-sport captain. He later was a recruited walk-on at Division I Minnesota, and rose to No. 3 on the quarterback charts there as a redshirt freshman in 2015. He transferred to St. Thomas in January 2016 after a Gophers' coaching change.
