Sophomore Pete Sienko tied for third place in a field of 103 players, but St. Thomas Men's Golf fell a bit short in the two-day, 36-hole UW-Eau Claire tourney.

UST had rounds of 304-304/608 and placed fifth, just five strokes behind winner UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds shot 291 on Monday to surge from eghth place to take the victory.

Augsburg (303-303/606) and Concordia (307-299/606) tied for second place. Bethel (304-303/607) and the Tommies placed 4-5, and Luther (304-306/610) took sixth.

On Monday, Riley Gannon shot 74; Derek Farrell shot 78; Jack Riester carded a 79; and Nick Nielsen shot 80. Two UST players competed as individuals: Owen Nowicki shot 77 and Thomas Stoxen shot 78.

St. Thomas competes Sept. 19-20 at the SJU Fall Invite in Sauk Centre and Sartell.

The event concludes with 18 holes on Monday.

Augsburg (303), St. Thomas (304), Luther (304), Bethel (304) and Concordia (307) hold the top five team spots. St. Olaf's No. 2 team (309), Gustavus (311), UW-Eau Claire (312), UW-Stout (310) and Simpson (314) round out the top 10.

Sienko shot 73, Jack Riester and Derek Farrell each shot 76, and Nick Nielsen carded a 79 to lead the Tommies. Riley Gannon shot 85.

Owen Nowicki (79) and Thomas Stoxen (81) played as individuals for UST.
