Men's Golf gets team academic honor

GCAA news release

Tommie Men's Golf team was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with its 2016-17 Team Academic Award. For the fourth time in five seasons, St. Thomas received the award as it easily surpassed the 3.00 grade-point average requirement.

Rising junior Matt Radke (3.89 gpa), an Accounting major, leads the Tommies' 14-man squad. Two teammates also hold gpas of 3.50 or higher: rising junior Derek Farrell, a Leadership and Management major, and rising sophomore Trey Sheehan, a Management major.

UST will return most of its squad from last season, including three players who averaged 77.0 or better per round. Leading that group is rising senior Pete Sienko, an All-America honoree and conference MVP in 2015-16.

St. Thomas plans to return to the Golfweek preview tournament in Florida, set for Oct. 14-17. UST won this tournament in fall 2015 in an 18-team field and placed 10th last fall.
