Sophomore Emmet Herb shot 72 on Sunday and tied for fifth place, three strokes out of the lead, at the 36-hole Twin Cities Classic. Herb had rounds of 74-72 at Elk River and the Links at Northfork. Monday's fial 18 holes in LeSeuer were rained out.
St. Thomas had five players in the top 30 in the 76-player field. Its two teams were each in the middle of the 13 teams at 612 and 613, nine strokes out of fourth place.
Peder Larson tied for 14th after rounds of 74 and 76. Shane Sienko tied for 19th after rounds of 73 and 78. Owen Nowicki tied for 23rd after rounds of 72 and 80; Matt Tuman tied for 28th after shooting 75 and 78.
Manitoba topped second-place St. John's by six strokes.
Tommie Men's Golf has two teams sitting in the top six out of 13 teams after day one of the Twin Cities Classic. The 54-hole tourney continues Sunday and finishes Monday.
Manitoba (279) leads second-place St. John's (287). The next six teams on the leaderboard are St. Thomas No. 2 (298), Augsburg (299), St. John's No. 2 (300), St. Thomas No. 1 (302), Nebraska Wesleyan (302) and UW-Eau Claire (302).
