St. Thomas' Scott Proshek is one of six Division III Regional Coaches of the Year for 2017-18 in men's golf. His award for the Central Region was announced today by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Proshek was on the national ballot for National Coach of the Year. He previously received MIAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in his eight seasons.
Proshek's 2017-18 Tommies were ranked No. 1 in the GolfStat computer rankings and No. 3 in the Division III coaches' poll for much of the late fall and spring. They swept team titles last October at the MIAC Championships and the elite GolfWeek tournament, then tied for 11th out of 42 teams in May at the 72-hole national meet.
Proshek, who starts his ninth season as head coach fall 2018, has guided the Tommies to five NCAA top-20 team finishes in the last seven seasons. UST's fifth-place nationals finish in May 2016 was the best in program history.
On the conference scene, St. Thomas has finished in the top four in the 10-team race in each of the last nine seasons, including five top-two places.
