St. Thomas had five of the top 11 Division III finishers and surged on the final 18 holes to claim the team title by two strokes in the 54-hole St. Thomas Invitational. Just five shots separated the Tommies, runner-up Gustavus and third-place Augsburg. The teams played 18 holes on Saturday and 36 on Sunday.
The No. 10-ranked Tommies have won their last four fall tournaments dating back to October 2017.
Emmet Herb was the second Division III finisher and tied for 10th in the field of 82, including more than a dozen Division I players. Herb shot 71-75-71/217. Peder Larson tied for 20th after rounds of 75-73-72/220. Matt Mellin's final round 71 was big and he closed in a tie for 27th with UST's Eric Chambers at 222. Miles McCarthy closed with a four-over 76 to help UST's No. 1 team hold on to win as he was the Toms' No. 4 scorer.

St. John's No. 2 team and Gustavus share the lead after each shooting 298. Augsburg is one back at 299. St. Thomas shot 301.
St. John's No. 1 team recorded a 312 score; Bethel carded a 313; St. Thomas' B and C teams shot 316 and 318.
