Men's Golf has record low score in dual defeat of Gusties

UST-GAC dual meet results

No. 22-ranked Tommie Men's Golf opened its season with an exclamation point Friday in a 18-hole dual meet against Gustavus.

The Toms scorched the par-70 LeSueur Country Club layout for a six-under-par team score of 274, the lowest numerical round in program history.

The six-under team score tied for the second-best by a St. Thomas team relative to par, after the spring 2018 Toms shot a seven-under 281 score in an April meet hosted by St. John's. In that round, Pete Sienko had a seven-under 65 and Emmet Herb had a four-under 68.

Gustavus and the St. Thomas No. 2 team both shot 290 to share second place.

Herb, a senior two-time All-America player, and junior Miles McCarthy each shot career-best scores of five-under 65s to lead the season-opening victory.

Peder Larson (71), Jack Nasby (73) and Ben Frazzini (74) rounded out the No. 1 team lineup.

Ben Kisla of the Purple No. 2 team shot 69. Other scorers for the Tommie No. 2 team were Sam Tollette (73), Matthew Raab (74) and John Peterson (74).

Coach Scott Proshek said the greens on the course have been undergoing seasonal maintenance, so the low scores were even more impressive.

Thursday scrimmage

Juniors Ben Frazzini and Peder Larson each shot even-par 73s -- the low rounds in a field of 23 golfers -- on Thursday to lead Tommie Men's Golf to a 297 score in a scrimmage agauinst Gustavus at Minnesota Valley Country in Bloomington.

Miles McCarthy (75), Emmet Herb (76) and Ben Kisla (79) rounded out the Tommie first team at 297.

The Purple's second team shot 311, led by Jack Nasby (74), Matthew Raab (76) and Sam Tollette (77),

Gustavus' first team shot 312, and its second team carded a 329. Jacob Pedersen had the low round for GAC at 76.
