Barnes burns 'em, Men's Hockey stays in chase for second

Senior Tanner Barnes scored the tie-breaking goal with 57 seconds left in regulation Friday night to give Tommie Men's Hockey a 5-4 victory over host Hamline in MIAC play in downtown St. Paul.

Barnes and junior Brett Gravelle scored two goals apiece and helped the Toms rally from a 4-3 deficit in the game's last 7:00. Gravelle's second goal tied the score with 6:21 to play.

Cullen Willox also scored a goal for St. Thomas. Cam Burggrabe made 17 saves and reached 10 wins on his freshman season.

The Tommies (14-5-5 overall, 8-2-5 MIAC) will play host to the Pipers Saturday in Mendota Heights (7 p.m.) for Senior Night.

St. Thomas can secure the league's No. 2 playoff seed with a Saturday night victory. If Concordia tops Augsburg and St. Thomas wins, they share second place but the Purple has the tie breaker. Tommie teams have placed first or second in MIAC hockey 52 times.
