Junior Connor Young converted the game's only goal off a scramble in the box 54 seconds into sudden-death overtime to lead No. 12-ranked and top-seed St. Thomas to a 1-0 home win over No. 6-seed Augsburg Wednesday in an MIAC playoff semifinal match at South Field.

The Tommies (15-1-3) are in the playoff title game for the second year in a row but first time as host school. The finals are Saturday with an 11 a.m. home game against second-seed Macalester. The Scots won 2-0 at home Wednesday night against St. John's.

St. Thomas avenged a 2-0 loss to the Auggies four days earlier -- its lone defeat thus far in 2016.

Augsburg (8-10-2), playing its second game in 24 hours, had a five-game unbeaten streak halted (4-0-1).

UST had a 14-2 shots advantage, including a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. The Toms also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Aidan Hogan (8-0-1) was in goal and had two saves. St. Thomas recorded its 14th shutout of the season.

Mark Heydt and Christian Elliehausen had the assists. Heydt made a slick pass from the left wing into the box. Elliehausen's shot drew the goalie out, and Young was able to find the loose ball and score his second goal of the season and third of his career.
