Senior Kevin Van Lieshout scored with just 11 seconds left in the second overtime to lead No. 10-ranked St. Thomas Men's Soccer to a thrilling 1-0 defeat of Macalester in Saturday conference play on the Scots' field.

UST and Macalester (6-3-1, 3-1) came into the contest ranked Nos. 1-2 in the NCAA North Region.

The Tommies (9-1 overall, 5-0 MIAC) stay alone atop the MIAC standings at the midway point of the conference season.

Van Lieshout, who scored his second goal of the week and sixth of his career, dashed in and converted a throw-in pass from Christian Ellliehausen into the game's only goal.

Aidan Hogan was in net for the victory and had one save. Hogan is 24-1-1 in his last two seasons -- the lone loss 2-1 to Tufts in the 2016 national semifinals. The Tommies have three shutouts this season and 19 over the last two seasons.

UST had a 6-0 edge in shots in the overtime session and a 19-4 advantage on the game (7-1 shots on goal).

The Toms have won their last 14 games when Elliehausen scores an assist or goal.

St. Thomas plays a non-conference game Tuesday at Augsburg (7:30 p.m.). The teams will play on Oct. 24 in their official MIAC game that counts in the standings.
