No. 4-ranked St. Thomas scored an early goal by freshman Jack Barry and added an insurance score by sophomore Halvor Houg just before halftime in Wednesday's 2-0 road win over St. Mary's on a warm, humid day in Winona. It was the MIAC opener for both teams.
Coach Jon Lowery's Tommies (5-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) extended their win streak over conference opponents to 15 and their regular-season victory streak to 19.
St. Thomas has won its last 41 games when it scores two or more goals.
The Toms scored in the 12th minute, assisted by Houg. They made it 2-0 when Houg converted a free kick just outside the top of the box in the final 15 seconds of play before halftime.
Senior Aidan Hogan collected his 26th career shutout in goal and made four saves. UST had a 7-4 edge in shots on goal but managed just one corner kick. The Cardinals dropped to 3-2 on the season.
The Toms are home Saturday to face St. John's (3:30 p.m.).
