St. Thomas junior Tom Negaard on Tuesday was named MIAC Men's Athlete of the Week in swimming and diving.
The Stevens Point, Wis., native had a hand in eight firsts in two dual meets last weekend as the Toms won at Carleton and won at St. Olaf in consecutive days.
Individually, Negaard posted four top-3 times in the MIAC and posted the 41st fastest D-III time and best MIAC clocking in the 50 free (21.61).
He swam on the 200 free relay (1:26.32) that is seeded first in the MIAC and 16th nationally, and on the 200 medley relay (1:36.95) that ranks second in the MIAC and 29th nationally.
He also clocked 48.37 in the 100 free and 54.04 in the 100 back, both ranked second in the conference, and 2:00.39 in the 200 back, third in the conference.
Last winter Negaard had a hand in four victores at the MIAC Championships, aiding a repeat team title for the Tommies. The Civil Engineering major has an outstanding 3.84 grade-point average.
